Gaijin dating japan
Now, you’re probably familiar with the stereotype of Western guys moving to Japan to meet women. It’s a nasty stereotype…with a few grains of truth to it, we suppose.Chiara: I heard too that Japanese men weren’t so interested in foreign women but my experience is kind of the opposite. But you don’t know if they’re interested in you as a person or because of your foreignness.Speed dating is still very much alive in Japan with dozens of events happening every week.If these events are mostly geared towards a Japanese speaking clientele, do not despair if your nihongo skills are not quite up to par.
” Yesterday a friend of mine showed me a video about a pickup artist who went to Tokyo and just went nuts dating and said and he had so much success with Japanese women and he was talking to his “students” about it. …Crazy.” In some of the little video clips, he was saying that he would walk up to Japanese women, grab them by the head and do this (gesture). But actually he said something in that video that struck me a little bit more.
Apparently, foreign guys have some appeal in Japan due to their willingness to put their partner first by opening doors, carrying heavy stuff, and paying for dinner.
We’re not sure it’s fair to suggest that some Japanese men aren’t equally considerate, but it is surprising how easy it is to be called a “gentleman” here in Japan simply by not knocking people down to get on the train first.
Christa: I actually approached someone on the train recently and he was totally ok with it but yeah it was kind of up to me to make a move.
Chiara: Um, let’s say in another field I had to make the first step.
There is no (strong) prejudice associated with dating foreigners, but most women still would be reluctant to do so as they feel uncomfortable about the cultural barrier.
